St Andrews Night Wear

St Andrews may be a small coastal town, but everyday is a fashion show, and our students’ night out fashion proves that style thrives even in the brisk North Sea air. Between cozy pubs, lively flat parties, the occasional black-tie ball, and 601 nights, the University's social calendar demands versatility — and the outfits reflect it. Here, effortless elegance meets a touch of vintage and individuality, with looks that balance sophistication and laid-back comfort.

The Effortless Minimalist

In this first outfit by Sophie Scott, a knitted sleeveless beige top paired with sleek black leather shorts strikes the perfect balance between comfort and allure. The textured knit adds softness, while the shorts bring a hint of edge that’s ideal for transitioning from a relaxed pre-drinks setting to the dance floor.

It’s rare to see people wearing mini shorts with a tight crop-top on a night out in St Andrews, yet Sophie’s choice to match her shorts with a waist length tank adds a level of sophistication to her outfit. Gold jewellery and layered necklaces also elevate this look, giving it a polished, minimalistic charm that’s popular among the university's style.

The Timeless Classic

The next look by Smilla Spasic captures a more refined side of student fashion. A simple black top pairs beautifully with a rich brown leather handbag featuring large buckle details, a piece that exudes timelessness and quality. Here, accessories play a major role: gold rings, layered necklaces, and bangles bring warmth and cohesion to the ensemble. It’s the kind of outfit you might spot at a dinner on South Street or an evening at a wine bar.

The Western Romantic

Next, we have Arrieta Abecia in a deep brown wrap top tucked into mid-waisted blue  jeans and cinched with a brown leather belt that creates a timeless, flattering silhouette. The leather two wrap belt with silver hoops adds a Western element that showcases individuality through an original, vintage accessory (very St Andrews).

The chunky green statement ring and subtle gold jewelry finish the look with personality. This outfit perfectly encapsulates St Andrews’ knack for blending contemporary style with a touch of classic academia: something that feels simultaneously polished and relaxed.

Finally, one of the most important elements of a St Andrews outfit: footwear. Above are three different styles of boots. The first is a pair of knee-high suede cowboy boots, adorned with studs and details that once again bring a touch of Western flair into the mix. These boots, in warm brown suede, are both nostalgic and bold, speaking to St Andrews’ appreciation for individuality and vintage-inspired dressing. Next, is a pair of square toe, dark brown, leather heeled boots that create the perfect “peek-a-boo” effect under your jeans, helping your outfit transform from casual to sophisticated. Lastly, a pair of black, pointy, chunky heeled boots that give the same effect.

St Andrews nightlife may unfold in historic settings, but the fashion scene is refreshingly modern. Students here dress with intention: comfort balanced with detail, timelessness paired with trend. Whether it’s a textured knit, statement boot, or a collection of unique jewellery, each outfit tells a story of individuality shaped by the rhythm of university life on the coast.
