The Autumn trends edit

September is a big month in fashion. It marks a big change in looks as seasons transition and clothes get warmer. It is also a time for the new cornerstones of fashion to be established, with London, New York, and Milan fashion weeks showing their collections of the year.

In the Bubble, September marks the start of the term, with fresh wardrobes, new beginnings, and a new wave of trends. There is something about the start of autumn in St Andrews that feels quietly cinematic.  Whether you’re heading to a tutorial, dinner with friends, or just walking down to grab coffee, this is your wardrobe edit.

The Statement Skirt

A look that is ever-so-classic, the statement skirt returns in a different length. Midi and mini lengths seem to take over this season, not just as a wardrobe addition, but as the focal point of the entire look. It’s been reimagined in different forms, leaning into rich colours, iconic textures, and bold materials, with fringed, suede, and tweed materials making a strong appearance on the runways and sidewalks.

Skirts aren’t an afterthought; they are the starting point around which an entire outfit is built. Whether styled with an oversized sweater or a tucked-in silk blouse, the new statement skirt is about curating the perfect autumnal look. Layered with tights or completed with boots, it is both fluid and structured, modern and timeless.

The Collarless Coat

Minimal yet deeply expressive, the collarless coat is quietly redefining the autumn silhouette. Alongside classics like trenches and wool coats, the collarless look stands out as a fresh take on layering. For those who are ready to take a break from boxy, oversized outerwear, this season offers a softer alternative. Whether showing a unique pattern or sleek brushed wool, these coats offer a sculptural elegance that flatters without overwhelming the figure. They’re the kind of piece that doesn’t need much else: throw it over a simple knit and you’ve got an outfit that feels complete. Functional and fashion-forward, the collarless coat is the newest style statement of the season.

Bohemian Style

Almost like the continuation of the Isabel Marant renaissance, bohemian dressing has evolved, but its spirit remains unchanged: carefree, romantic, and the perfect relaxed yet polished look. This season’s interpretation sows flowy dresses with statement sleeves, embroidered garments, and delicate charm necklaces layered with intention to create a look that feels both curated and effortless. Isabel Marant continues to be the standout option for this aesthetic, offering pieces that feel like modern heirlooms. It’s a style that blurs the lines between seasons, making it ideal for September’s in-between weather.

Charming in Crimson

To say that red is back would be wrong, because did it ever really leave? This time, it’s less about making a statement and more about shifting the energy of your entire wardrobe. No longer reserved for evening wear or accessorising, red has stepped into the spotlight as a seasonless neutral.  From satiny layers to soft cashmere jumpers, it adds a jolt of vibrancy to the muted autumn palette. A pop of crimson against beige, camel, navy, or chocolate brown brings a sense of modernity to the classic autumn palette.

All Things Suede

Few fabrics evoke the tactile richness of autumn quite like suede. Its plush, velvety texture brings an immediate sense of warmth and depth to any look. This season, it’s being reinterpreted in unexpected ways on softly structured shirt dresses, tailored midi skirts, and even boots. The beauty of suede lies in its versatility: it can feel rustic or refined, depending on how it’s styled. A tan suede jacket worn over a floral dress channels 70’s charm, while a deep forest green skirt paired with a turtleneck feels thoroughly modern. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, suede has a lived-in quality that gets better with age. It invites wear, tells a story, and adds character to even the simplest outfit.

Curved Shapes

Autumn 2025 is all about embracing the curve in a way that feels thoughtful and entirely modern. This isn’t body-con dressing, but something softer and more sculptural. Cocoon coats, tulip skirts, puffed sleeves, and gentle peplums create silhouettes that move with ease and grace. These pieces don’t constrain the body; they celebrate it. After seasons of hard edges and sharp tailoring, this return to fluid lines feels like a quiet shift. In materials like velvet, double-faced wool, and brushed cashmere, these shapes feel both elegant and grounding. The result is feminine but not nostalgic, structured but never stiff.

The Leather Tote

The leather tote is one of the most timeless accessories of the season. It is not about trends or statements. It is about purpose and timelessness. In deep shades like espresso, burgundy, and forest green, it pairs seamlessly with the textures and tones of fall. It can also add a light contrast to the classic autumnal palette with lighter shades such as beige. Whether found vintage or newly acquired, a good tote carries more than just your essentials. It brings coherence to your outfit, grounds more playful pieces, and perfectly completes every autumnal look.
