Prost! Biergartenzeit in St Andrews
As I have come to learn in my first year living in the UK, there is nothing quite like a sunny spring day in Britain. After months of cold, darkness, clouds, rain, and – for us in Scotland, especially – ridiculously short days with early afternoon sunsets, the vastness of a blue sky and warm embrace of the sun is an almost alien sensation.
Deck Yourself Out
How might St Andrews students (and fashion connoisseurs alike) maximise self-expression in their outfits? The small aspect of the more overlooked and/or less conventional accessories – more than just a simple necklace or the expected jewelry – can actually end up doing the most for an outfit & its wearer.
Spring’s Must-Have Shoes Taking Over St Andrews
St Andrews always has a solid shoe game, but come spring, it reaches a whole new level. As the sweaters and jackets come off, layering takes a backseat and it becomes the turn of styling through colour, accessories and, most importantly, cool shoes. And so, peeking out of breezy linen skirts and flowy floral trousers is a wide array of footwear that ranges from the ballet flat to colourful sneakers and camel toned clogs. Here are some of the most popular shoes we have spotted around St Andrews:

Fashion is a versatile form of art, and whilst some fashion trends whisper; others jingle as you walk.
The Art of Combining Colour
As we bid farewell to the dreary days of winter, colour slowly finds its way back into our wardrobes. With warmer weather comes the perfect excuse to embrace vibrant hues, whether through bold brights or soft, understated tones as florals and pastels take over from the muted greys, browns, and blacks of heavy coats and knitwear. Spring is the season of playful pairings, eclectic combinations, and daring fashion statements. Picture Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw striding through the breezy streets of New York, effortlessly mixing green, blue, and her signature hot pink, completing her outfits with a pair of iconic Manolo Blahniks. This season is all about creativity and experimentation, and what better way to embrace it than through colour?
Investment Pieces: The Essentials
During my time at St Andrews, I’ve realized looking effortlessly put-together is essential. Walking through town and seeing everyone’s chic outfits naturally makes you want to match that energy. In a world where fashion trends evolve faster than ever, curating a timeless wardrobe is a must. The secret to achieving an elegant yet practical style is investing in quality over quantity. “Investment Pieces” are wardrobe staples that never go out of style, offering versatility, durability, and long-term value. Unlike fast fashion, these pieces remain stylish year after year, making them worth the initial cost. In this guide, we will explore must-have investment pieces that form the foundation of a chic, sophisticated, and functional wardrobe.
Turning Your Closet Into The Runway
“New year, new me” is channelled every year when all the major fashion weeks set the tone for the new, hottest trends of the year. February is a busy month for fashion lovers and enthusiasts alike – the ‘Big Four’ took over, with each week causing fashion moguls to jet-set between New York, London, Milan, and Paris. Every week feels like fashion week in St. Andrews – although a quaint town, the outfits are bold and fresh. Some of the hottest trends at the fashion weeks this year included bringing back 80’s styles, statement bangles, and an upgraded version of the coquette trend, with designers loving the bows. The outfits sported on the runways at these fashion weeks are not necessarily ones you would wear daily, although, to each their own. But that doesn’t mean you can’t take inspiration and incorporate elements of these trends into your daily outfits.

Whether you’re packing for holiday dinners, coffee runs, or casual nights in, your wardrobe should finally go back to just being about pleasing you and being comfortable in your hometown. Here are what our St Andrews students wore over their winter breaks…
SPPH: Let’s Talk About It
St. Andrews has invented a new unit of measurement: spph, which stands for society puffer per hour. I would say an average spph for this tiny, coastal town is … 7 society puffers, especially when you account for factors such as the weather, business of the season, whether or not there are society events occurring soon, and where in town you are. Taste? The average spph on a Monday morning is probably more of a 3. Library? The average spph transcends barriers.
Are Skinny Jeans Cool Again?
Skinny jeans might just be one of fashion’s most polarizing staples. Adored in the early 2000’s, later experiencing the wrath of Gen Z cancel culture, they are now stealthily riddling their way back in the wardrobe of the IT girls. Back in March 2024 Vogue declared that the ‘Skinny Jean is Back!’ and what followed just seemed to be a confirmation: from Alix Earle’s latest collab with Frame to Prada’s, Sportmax’s and Tod’s spring/summer 2025 collections. Are skinny jeans officially cool again?
